The family had taken a rental boat out onto the Italian lake when the man’s 16-year old son dove into the water and had trouble returning to the craft.
The 45-year-old father went into the water to help him but disappeared. The boy was later rescued by someone on a paddle board.
The Italian coast guard spent more than a day searching for the man using sonar and under water cameras. They recovered his body lying 25 metres deep. The body was taken to a nearby hospital for an investigation.
