Natural heritage organisation Natuurmonumenten is planning to introduce car park fees at some of its nature reserves, according to local broadcaster RTV Oost.

The plan envisages a charge of €1.75 per hour and up to €7 a day to park, RTV Oost said. This summer, the first paid parking will be introduced at the Hackfort country estate in the village of Vorden in Gelderland.

The organisation currently manages 107,000 hectares of countryside nationwide and is currently looking into where paid parking should be introduced.

Natuurmonumenten’s 700,000 members will not have to pay to park their cars and the organisation says it expects more people will join as paid parking is rolled out.

Plans to introduce paid parking were first mooted in 2014.
