Three men posing as lorry drivers managed to steal €3m worth of electronics from a storage facility at Schiphol airport this summer, according to a report on television crime show Opsporing Verzocht.

The men used two lorries with stolen number plates and even brought an electric forklift truck with them so they could move the boxes of phones, drones and cameras into their getaway vehicles.

One wore a yellow high visibility jacket while they went about their work in the early hours of the morning on June 5. In total, the men took 90 minutes to load the boxes of electronics onto their lorries – all of which was captured on surveillance camera film.

The thieves also made off with spare parts for garden lighting, which would appear to have been a mistake. This was later found in abandoned in a warehouse in Beverwijk during a separate investigation into money laundering.

One of the lorries was bought in Gelderland in April and one of the two buyers has now been arrested. The other buyer, a bald man with a strong Amsterdam accident, has not yet been traced.

Police have also found no sign of the stolen goods. They suspect the gang may have had inside information given the ease with which they entered the building, and appeared to know what they were looking for.

The distribution centre on the Rangoonweg at Schiphol has since been taken out of service.
