The body of a man has been found in a drugs lab in Den Dungen near Den Bosch. Police say he appears to have died after ‘something went wrong’ in the lab process and a team of police investigators who specialise in dealing with dangerous chemicals have been drafted in.

The drugs lab was found in a former garden centre on an industrial estate. Police were called in after the emergency services were alerted on Thursday night.

One neighbour told local broadcaster Omroep Brabant that dozens of people visited the complex every day. ‘They were just ordinary, decent people,’ he said. ‘If strangers visited we would have known. Everyone knows each other here.’

Noord-Brabant province is said to be the centre of the Dutch ecstasy production industry. In 2017 police broke up 127 drugs labs in Brabant and 57 in Limburg, compared with 136 in the rest of the country as a whole.
