Amsterdam football club Ajax will meet Italian side Juventus in the quarter finals of the Champions League next month.

Juventus has been Italian league champion for the past seven years and is poised to win again this year.

‘It is clear that Juventus are the favourites, but there are always chances,’ Ajax coach Erik ten Hag said after the draw. ‘If we take a realistic and no-holds barred approach to the game, then there are definitely opportunities.’

Juventus were last in the Champions League final in 1996, when they beat Ajax on penalties.

‘It is a very experienced squad with players who have won a lot of titles during their career,’ Ten Hag said. ‘They can take on different types of play … but we can do the same. That makes the challenge even greater.’

The first leg will take place on April 10, with the return leg a week later. If Ajax manage to progress to the semi-finals, they will meet either Tottenham Hotspur or Manchester City.
