The Netherlands moves up to fourth in global median wealth ranking
The Netherlands has climbed eight places to fourth place in the latest Credit Suisse Global Wealth Report ranking for median wealth.
The financial services group does not give a reason for the improvement in Dutch household assets, but the Financieele Dagblad suggests that rising house prices are one reason for the improved Dutch performance.
The report says the average Dutchman or woman has assets of $114,930. In addition, there are now 477,000 people in the Netherlands who hold assets of at least €1m.
Credit Suisse defines wealth as the value of financial assets plus real assets (principally housing) owned by households, minus their debts.
The median wealth ranking ‘favours countries with lower levels of wealth inequality’, Credit Suisse said. It is led by Australia, Switzerland and Belgium.
