Two people have been injured in a stabbing incident at Amsterdam’s central station and police have shot a suspect, the Parool reported on Friday.

The two victims and the suspect have been taken to hospital but it is unknown how seriously they have been injured. The incident happened just after midday in the western tunnel under the station.

One eyewitness told local broadcaster AT5 that the suspect is a man in his 30s who may have been in the queue for information at the NS service counter. One of the victims is a ‘foreign youth’ who was stabbed in the hand, the eyewitness said.

The tunnel has been closed because of the investigation and all train services were halted for a time. Services have now resumed, apart from to platforms four and five, national railway company NS said.

‘It was chaotic in front of the station,’ traveller Jaime van Gastel told the Telegraaf. ‘There were police everywhere. I saw at least 15 cars and a lot of police officers. A police helicopter also circulated over the the station for a time.’
