Unions FNV and CNV are calling on security staff at Schiphol airport to stop work on September 4 as part of their campaign for more pay and improved schedules.

Security workers elsewhere will also go on strike but the unions have not said which locations will be affected.

‘Schiphol has been told now because a 24 hour strike will have consequences for the airport and air traffic,’ Mohamed Gafki of the FNV Security union told broadcaster NOS. ‘That means things can be organised in an orderly way. Travellers can be informed in time, tickets can be rebooked, flights cancelled etc.’

In the last five weeks security staff at the airport have stopped work for fifteen minutes for up to five times a day in a bid for more pay and better work schedules.

Schiphol went to court to avoid more disruption but judges ruled that workers could extend their strikes but not until after September 2.
