Government to spend €34m on restoring churches, windmills and bicycles

The government is to spend €34 million on restoring historic windmills, churches and ‘mobile heritage’ such as planes and gliders, culture minister Ingrid van Engelshoven has announced.
The list of monuments that qualify for funding include Utrecht cathedral, which will receive €2.1 million, the Stevenskerk in Nijmegen, which is getting €5.5 million, and around 50 windmills which will share €3.5 milllion.
The St Anna’s convent site in Venray has been allocated €3.5 million, while €4.9 million will be spent on restoring the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Kerk in Breda.
Some of the grants will go to historic planes, trains, gliders, bicycles and other forms of transport which are privately owned hands, so that they can go on public view.
