Amsterdam is the most expensive city in Europe for city centre hotel stays, according to website Cheaprooms.com.

‘Travellers planning a trip to Amsterdam this spring may have to dig deep in their pockets for accommodation,’ the website warned. The survey covered the rate for the cheapest available double room. Only hotels with a central location and with a rating of three or more stars were included in the findings.

With an average rate of €192 per night, Amsterdam came top of the rankings. The second and third most expensive cities, according to the survey, were Copenhagen and Dublin, with average rates of €162 and €142 respectively.

At the other end of the scale, the cheapest city in Europe for hotel stays during spring time is Istanbul, with an average rate of just €31 per night – making it more than five times more affordable than Amsterdam. Also affordable are Moscow and Krakow, where visitors can expect to find a room for less than €50 per night, the website said.
