KLM’s budget carrier Transavia and pilots union VNV said in a statement on Monday that they had resumed talks aimed at averting further strikes.

Over the weekend Transavia CEO Mattijs ten Brink and VNV president Arthur van den Hudding discussed how to avoid the impasse in the negotiations over a new collective labour agreement for the airline’s pilots. Transavia’s 500 pilots have not had a CAO agreement for 14 months.

The pilots are demanding improvements in the flight rosters so they can better plan in free time and time with their families. Currently, pilots face continual roster changes, the union says.

In addition, they are calling for a ‘modest pay rise’ and that their employer contributes into a special fund for pilots who become unable to fly through illness. KLM has a similar fund for its pilots.

The VNV has said that the will be no flight interruptions so long as there is constructive dialogue and good prospects for a new CAO. Transavia pilots held a one-day strike in mid-February which affected 12,000 passengers during the mid-term school holidays.
