Ride now, pay later: NS launches new travel card
Public transport travellers will soon be able to ride and pay later, according to the NS transport operator.
It is testing a new ‘NS Flex’ card that will let people travel on buses, trams, trains, on the metro, as well as parkg and hire public OV bicycles. Instead of having to load up their card with cash in advance, they will receive a monthly bill at the end of the month.
The trial is starting this year with a test group, and the plan is to phase in the new way of travelling in 2018.
NS Flex cards will be available without subscribing – although they can work with discount offers – and will cost €10.
There has been controversy previously over the amount of cash unclaimed when cards expire, and the amount of money the NS makes on the plastic cards.
