Leaves on the track again lead to fewer trains
Dutch rail operator NS is again warning passengers there will be delays on some services because of leaves on the track.
In particular, the Utrecht to The Hague and Nijmegen to Schiphol routes have been affected and services cut from four to two every hour
Trains have worse grip on the track if leaves are on the line and their wheels can be damaged during braking, broadcaster NOS said. Extra engineers are now working round the clock to repair and replace damaged wheels, the NS said.
In an effort to reduce the damage, other trains are being used to spread a gel containing sand and potato starch to reduce the slipperiness. Track operator Prorail is also chopping down trees which are close to the tracks.
