Dutch ‘leader’ of bank robbery ‘wig’ gang arrested
A Dutch anarchist has been arrested for a series of armed bank robberies in Germany, described by fellow activists as ‘legitimate expropriations’ to share wealth, reports the AD.
The 29-year-old woman born in Amsterdam was taken into custody earlier this week in the Dutch capital, at the request of German police. The Aachen public prosecutor suspects that she is the leader of the so-called ‘wig gang’, which carried out thefts in disguise.
They believe she wore a short, blond wig during three armed bank robberies in the German border town in July 2012, July 2013 and November 2014. More than €340,000 was taken in raids described by one bank as ‘extreme, professional and terrifying’.
She goes before a magistrate today to decide if she will be extradited. The German prosecutor has been pursuing her for a year: the woman, who has not been named, spent five months in custody in 2015, and was arrested in Spain in April.
Extreme left-wing websites have protested the woman’s arrest, writing: ‘Our comrade has been arrested. We are fucking furious!’
