Government earmarks an extra €10bn to improve roads, rail
The cabinet is to set aside billions of euros for new roads and other infrastructure projects, sources have told the AD.
Ministers have almost finalised their agreement on a €10bn capital injection for the infrastructure fund over two years, the paper says. The fund is used to pay for all main roads, railway and water projects. The extra cash would allow projects to be planned up to 2030, the paper says.
The fund currently gets some €5.5bn to €6.5bn a year, most of which is used for maintenance and financing infrastructure projects.
The two government coalition parties have already drawn up their lists of priorities, the AD says. Labour wants to rebuild Schiphol airport railway station to cope with a shortage of capacity, and widen the A20 between Rotterdam and Gouda.
The VVD wants to focus on road projects including improving traffic flow between Rotterdam and The Hague.
