Police shoot man with knife dead, earlier shooting victim dies
Dutch police have shot dead a man who reportedly charged at them with a knife in the village of De Kwakel, south west of Amstelveen.
The incident happened at around 5am on Thursday morning when police were called to what the Telegraaf says was a domestic disturbance.
When the police arrived, the man was on the street and ran at them, causing one of the police officers to open fire. The man died at the scene.
The incident is the second fatal shooting involving police in less than a week. On Saturday, police shot a 41-year-old man in Eindhoven after being called out to another domestic disturbance.
He died of his injuries in hospital on Wednesday. That incident was filmed by a neighbour and broadcast on national television.
On average, two people are shot dead by police every year in the Netherlands.
