Fewer cyclists fined for not having lights at night
Last year police handed out 25,733 fines to cyclists for not having proper lights at night, according to new figures from the government’s fine collection agency.
This is a sharp drop on the 44,300 fines issued in 2014. The decline is due to last year’s police strikes, which involved ignoring minor traffic offences for a time.
Relatively speaking, cyclists in the university city of Leiden were most likely to be fined for not having lights, followed by Vlissingen and Goes in Zeeland.
The fine for cycling without proper lights is €55.
