ADO fans banned for racist chanting may face prosecution
The Hague football club ADO Den Haag has banned 22 supporters from home and away games for taking part in racist chanting during last weekend’s match against Ajax.
A number of ADO Den Haag fans made monkey noises when Ajax player Riechedly Bazoer, 19, had the ball during the premier division tie, despite being asked three times over the loudspeaker system to stop.
ADO said in a statement it had been able to identify the 22 people quickly because of the advanced equipment in the stadium itself.
Fines
The 22 have also been told they will be held liable for any fine imposed on the club by the Dutch football association and that their names have been passed to the public prosecution department.
The chanting and the weak initial response by ADO officials led to calls for the KNVB to come down hard on racism during football matches.
