Ajax defender Kenny Tete arrested in cannabis cafe
Ajax defender Kenny Tete was arrested after a fight in a cannabis café in Amsterdam at the beginning of December, the Telegraaf said on Monday.
Tete, who won his first cap for the Dutch national team in October, will face charges and appear in court, the department said. It is not clear why Tete, who is 20, was arrested but the Telegraaf said eyewitnesses reported he had insulted a police officer and resisted arrest.
Ajax said in a statement that Tete has been disciplined by the club but that there could be further fall-out. ‘Ajax will not take any action until exactly what happened has been established,’ the statement said.
Meanwhile amateur video footage emerged at the weekend of PSV players Maxime Lestienne and Jeroen Zoet being arrested while out on the town in Eindhoven in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The video shows Lestienne on the ground surrounded by police officers before being handcuffed and taken off. Zoet was then picked up after protesting about his friend’s arrest. Both were released after paying a fine and will not face charges.
‘Lestienne and Zoet have once again been confronted with the fact they live in glass houses and that they have to set an example,’ PSV director Toon Gerbrands is quoted as saying by broadcaster Nos.
