Rabobank is buying farmland in Romania without being sure who owns it and is then failing to put money towards its management or improvement, according to an investigation published in De Correspondent.

Investigative journalists found that the bank operates a €315m investment fund for farmland in Romania and Poland called Rabo Farm which has acquired over 21,000 hectares of farmland across Romania since 2011.

However, many of the villagers whose land has been bought say they never sold it and have never had any money. Instead, corrupt officials have been involved in ‘selling’ the land to third parties who then sell it on to the bank, the article claims.
