Man arrested on Thalys train in Rotterdam (update)
Police in Rotterdam’s central station have arrested a man who had locked himself in a toilet on a Thalys train heading from Amsterdam to Paris.
The man, described by broadcaster Nos as having a ‘north African appearance’, was arrested without the use of violence. He did not have any weapons with him.
He was taken away on a stretcher because, police said, he did not feel well and had been hyperventilating.
Train services to and from Rotterdam have been disrupted and a large part of the station and several shops were closed to passengers.
The man joined the Thalys train in Rotterdam and is said to have jumped on board at the last moment.
Police said they had not yet determined why the man locked himself in the toilet or if he was simply trying to avoid paying a fare.
