Paternity leave, care homes and defence to profit from government windfall
Paternity leave, care homes and defence will benefit from an extra €750m which the government has to spend.
According to documents seen by broadcaster RTL, the coalition parties have each made their own choices on what to do with the windfall.
Labour is to extend paternity leave from the current two days to five days from 2017. This will cost €75m.
The party also wants to spend an extra €133m a year on improving care homes. They also want to give every old person €1,000 a year to spend on leisure activities such as bingo or making music.
The right-wing liberal VVD have earmarked the largest part of the money for an increase in spending on defence, RTL says.
