Leiden’s ROC college saved from bankruptcy
Leiden’s ROC community college has been saved from bankruptcy after MPs voted in favour of a €40m bail-out.
The VVD, Christian Democrats and anti-Islam PVV voted in favour of a motion to force the college to go bust. However, a majority of MPs said that the college’s 9,000 pupils and 700 staff should not be punished for the failings of the board.
The college’s financial problems stem from a decision to concentrate its 18 different locations on two sites, which went many times over budget. Education inspectors have also criticised the quality of some courses and ordered five to be shut down.
