Dutch FA boss says Fifa needs to start acting normally again

March 3, 2015

Michiel van PraagDutch football association boss Michael van Praag on Monday launched his campaign for the Fifa presidency, saying the world football body needs to ‘go back to acting normally’.

The Dutch football association members on Monday gave the go-ahead for a campaign budget of almost €400,000 for his fight to take football’s top job. Former Portuguese international Luis Figo and Jordanian prince Ali Bin Al Hussein are also challenging Sepp Blatter for the role.

The campaign is being paid for by the profit the Dutch national football team booked from its third place in the last World Cup, website nu.nl reported.

In particular, van Praag said he would ensure full disclosure of Michael Garcia’s report into the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups if he is elected in May.

Van Praag said his main aim is to leave football in a better state for the next generation. ‘We must ensure that football continues to be for everyone,’ he said

‘Fifa should invest in football, not in expensive management, gifts and promotional films costing millions… Fifa needs to go back to basics, it needs to go back to acting normally,’ Van Praag said.
