Horse meat scandal trader to be prosecuted
The meat trader at the centre of 2013’s horse meat scandal will appear in court on March 24 as the only person in the affair to be prosecuted.
Willy Selten, whose company in Oss was declared bankrupt by a court in Den Bosch April 2013, is accused of selling 300,000 kilos of horse meat as beef between 2011 and 2013. He is being prosecuted for fraud, the Telegraaf reports.
Selten said when his firm was closed down in 2013 by food safety inspectors that the meat was always checked and the problems related to one period in May 2012.
The sales director and an administration worker at the company who were also suspects in the case will not be prosecuted, the Telegraaf says.
