Record traffic jams following fatal accident

The longest traffic jams of the year so far were recorded on Tuesday morning, partly as a result of a fatal accident on the A2, the traffic information service VID reports.

At 8.45 this morning there were 300 kms of queues on the roads, beating the previous 2014 record of 299 kms on April 17.

The A2 between Breukelen and Maarssen was particularly badly affected after two cars and a lorry collided. One person died in the accident, the cause of which is not yet known.

The A50 near Arnhem was another black spot following a collision between a cement mixer and a lorry.

In both cases, drivers were advised to make detours causing long traffic jams on other roads between Almere and Utrecht and around Arnhem.
