Dutch police under investigation for drinking during nuclear summit
The Dutch national police force is investigating reports that a number of police officers on duty during the nuclear security summit last month disturbed hotel guests with rowdy behaviour.
News agency ANP says 10 to 15 officers were involved in the disturbances at a hotel in Wassenaar late on Sunday night, before the summit officially started.
It is unclear if the shift pattern meant they were under the influence of alcohol while on duty, the news agency says. ‘I cannot believe they would have passed a breathalyser test,’ one guest told local paper Noordhollands Dagblad.
The officers involved may now be subject to disciplinary measures. The hotel has apologised to guests who were disturbed by the police officers but the police have not yet done so, the paper says.
Three US security department officials were sent home before the arrival of president Barack Obama for the summit because they had been drinking.
