Local elections: poll says D66 will overtake Labour in Amsterdam
In Amsterdam, the Liberal democratic party D66 is on target to beat the ruling Labour party in next month’s local elections, according to the latest O&S opinion poll.
The new poll, on behalf of the Parool newspaper, gives D66 13 seats on the 45-seat council, almost double their current total. Labour is on target to drop from 15 to 10. The party has been the biggest in the capital for the past 60 years.
The poll also shows the current city coalition, made up of the VVD Liberals, Labour and GroenLinks, will lose its majority. However, some 40% of the 473 people questioned for the poll had not definitely decided who to vote for.
Meanwhile, Amsterdam’s expat centre is holding a special election debate for international voters on March 6.
The debate, featuring local politicians, will look at some of the main issues facing internationals and expats, including housing, learning Dutch and integration. Find out more
