Over the last couple of years, the number of new chiropractors in Amsterdam has grown sharply. This increase can be explained by the rise in demand for chiropractic services.

The first question that comes to mind is: why are more and more people in Amsterdam looking to be treated by a chiropractor? The main reason is the increase of the foreign (non Dutch or expat) population in Amsterdam on the one hand and the increase in the acceptance of alternative medicine on the other hand.

Generally speaking, our workloads increase and we spend longer days working in the office. Apart from our more intense working days, we tend to also add more off work appointments to our dairies.

The current financial crisis, longer working days and having more stuff to do, will logically have a negative effect on our stress levels. We have more stress and ask more of our bodies, which often results in back and neck pains or headaches

So what is chiropractic healthcare and what exactly does a chiropractor do?

Chiropractic health care focuses on the disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems and the effects these disorders can have on the general health. Chiropractic care is most often used to treat back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints and headaches.

Health care professionals specialised in chiropractic treatment are referred to as chiropractors. Chiropractors are trained to perform and recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises. Chiropractors can also provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling.

The most common treatment performed by a chiropractor is known as spinal manipulation or chiropractic adjustment. The chiropractor’s aim is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become somehow restricted in their movement.

The injury and restricted movement of a joint can be caused by repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an office chairs for hours a day in an awkward position with poor spinal posture. The injury can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function of the joints.

A chiropractor will adjust the affected joint and restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain. Chiropractic treatment rarely causes discomfort and if one visits a professional chiropractor in Amsterdam one should not worry.

The methods used by chiropractors have been researched and further developed for over 100 years. There is a myth in the Netherlands that chiropractic treatment can wear out joints, but the opposite is true.

Walking around with untreated problems in the joints is what causes faster degeneration and consequently more pain. If you have a back or neck pain and you consider seeing a chiropractor in Amsterdam, you might want to consider visiting Chiropractor Amsterdam.

The Dutch health insurance conpanies tend to reimburse most chiropractic treatments, but make sure to discuss this matter with your chiropractor and insurance company first.
