Emergency repair work after Utrecht canal wall collapses
Emergency repair work continued overnight in Utrecht to shore up part of a canal wall which collapsed on Tuesday, taking a chunk of road with it.
The 20-metre stretch of canal wall on the Bemuurde Weerd Oostzijde in the city’s historic centre appears to have been weakened after a tree came down, officials said. The weekend’s heavy rain may also have had an impact.
Three other trees will now be removed and an emergency wall will be constructed in the water.
