Gambling adverts to carry warning of risks
Gambling services must include warnings in their adverts, just like drink and tobacco manufacturers, junior justice minister Fred Teeven said on Monday.
The new rules on advertising will take effect in October.
Casinos, lotteries and other gambling services must think up an ‘effective slogan’ warning of the dangers of gambling, Teeven said. He wants something along the lines of the drink industry’s Drink destroys more than you care to think.
From October, all adverts and commercials will carry a website address where consumers can find information about the addictive effects of gambling together with the minimum age at which they can gamble.
