Europe’s biggest captive crab, a 3.5 metre Japanese giant spider crab known as Alexander, has died a day after arriving at the Sea Life centre in Scheveningen.
According to Fox news, the crab had been held at the Sea Life holding centre in England before being moved to the Netherlands.
Staff at the Sea Life centre in Scheveningen said the crab became ill on Wednesday night after being placed in a new, specially-built aquarium with five centimetre thick glass.
Experts are trying to establish why the crab died. Staff at the centre are said to be devastated.
