The woman who starred in an iconic Dutch political party poster – naked with arms outstretched and in front of a cow – has died at the age of 68.
The photograph of Saskia Holleman, a 25-year-old actress, was used by the PSP – the Pacifistisch Socialistische Partij – in the 1971 election. The poster caused a stir because of its full-frontal nudity, which reflected the spirit of the times.
According to the Volkskrant, Holleman had no idea the photograph would be used by the party and did not agree. She eventually settled for 1,250 guilders.
The poster has been voted best political poster of all time, although the PSP vote actually halved from four to two seats at the election.
Holleman was an actress and model but went on to study law and became a lawyer.
