Over half of Dutch workers are commuters

Some 56% of Dutch workers commute to another local authority area for work, according to new figures from national statistics office CBS.

The figures, which date from the end of 2011, show 4.5 million people travel to work every day.

The biggest stream of commuters is between Amsterdam and Almere. Some 21,000 move between the two cities for work on a daily basis.
