240-tonne listed signal box moved to new location – in one piece
Engineers have been able to move a listed railway signal box which weighs 240 tonnes by lifting it from its foundations in one piece.
The building was made loose from its foundations and then moved from its old position in the middle of the tracks at Roosendaal station.
The project, which will take two days to complete, is costing €1.8m. It was funded by local government, railway operator ProRail and a number of industrial heritage groups.
