The overnight snow has caused some problems on the rush hour roads on Wednesday, with conditions particularly slippery west of Amsterdam and Utrecht, Nos television reports.
Around 08.00 hours, there were some 500 km of jams on the roads, but the urban central belt was relatively clear, Nos said. Many of the jams were caused by lorries which became stuck in the early hours before traffic got up to speed.
Rush hour train services have also been reduced to ensure the entire network does not seize up.
According to the KNMI weather bureau, wintry showers are likely to continue for the rest of the week. Although it will freeze at night, temperatures will remain around four of five Celsius during the day.
