Over half of the 723 people arrested for vandalism, attacking the emergency services and other offences during the New Year celebrations have already had their cases dealt with via the fast-track legal system, Nos television reports.
So far 419 cases have been processed, although some are still awaiting the judges’ verdict.
Twenty-five people have been sentenced to jail terms of between six and ten weeks and the maximum fine handed out so far was €1,050 to a man accused of insulting a police officer, Nos said.
Thirteen minors have been ordered to join the Halt juvenile crime prevention scheme.
