Unions, employers and ministers to meet for economy talks
Ministers, unions and employers are due to meet on Wednesday afternoon for the first time in over a year to discuss kick-starting the economy.
The three sides have not had a formal sit-down meeting since the leadership struggle within the FNV trade union federation, Nos television states.
The malaise in the construction sector is high on today’s agenda. According to the FNV-affiliated Bouw union, some 250 builders are losing their jobs every week. The knock-on effect is also being felt in related trades such as electricians and the DIY sector, the union says.
The rise in youth unemployment, plans to cut unemployment benefit and the financial problems facing pension funds are also up for discussion.
