Young ChristenUnie members warn party on Greece-out-of-euro report

The youth organisation of the ChristenUnie warned the main party on Thursday not to jump to the conclusion Greece should leave the euro.

PerspectieF was reacting to the publication earlier in the day of a report by an independent commission which looked at the future of the currency on behalf of the party.
The main conclusion of the report was that it would be better all round if Greece left the euro and reintroduced its own currency.

Party leader Arie Slob commented on the report: ‘What we are doing now is muddling through, while the Greek debt will only increase.’ Nor did he rule out the departure from the euro of other southern European countries.
Maarten van Ooijen, chairman of PerspectieF told Nos: ‘The EU is of great value to us. It is important not to throw out the baby with the bathwater.’
He pointed to what would follow for the Greeks: ‘enormous poverty and an economy at the level of most African countries’.
The ChristenUnie needs to tell this story, too, he told Nos.
