Texel coastline reinforced with 5.8 million cubic metres of sand
Enough sand has been blasted onto the coast of the Wadden Sea island of Texel to ensure the stability of the coastline for the next three or four years, BNR radio reports on Wednesday.
Over the past few years, almost six million cubic metres of sand has been added to the shoreline. In total, seven dredgers made 2,000 trips to move the sand, which forms an essential defence against the sea.
The infrastructure ministry-led project started in 2007.
