Albert Heijn has been hit by an “IT incident” according to a company statement released on Monday morning, which notes that cosmetics chain Etos and alcohol shop Gall and Gall are also affected. All three chains are owned by Ahold Delhaize.

Albert Heijn has switched off part of its IT systems, leaving its website, app and home delivery service unavailable.

“We immediately took measures to protect our IT environment,” the company said in a statement on Monday. “Part of that is temporarily switching off a number of systems as a precaution.” Customer services and logistics systems are offline, and online order cannot be delivered until further notice.

AH has not said what caused the incident or when services will return. It said only that protecting the data of customers, staff and partners is its priority.

Shops are open and tills are working, but personal discounts and app-linked savings schemes are paused. Electronic shelf labels may also show last week’s offer prices, the chain said, so the prices at the till can be higher than shown on shelves.
