Government gives €167m to six university research projects
The education ministry is giving €167m to fund six major Dutch university research projects, over a 10-year period.
In total, 42 requests for financial support were made through the programme. The six projects selected focus on cancer research, nanotechnology, brain research, language, child development and physics.
‘We are are stimulating research which is among the best in the world, or has the potential to be so,’ education minister Jet Bussemaker said in a statement. ‘Free and independent research is crucial to force major breakthroughs in the big social issues.’
The Netherlands has come under fire from experts for not devoting enough money to research and development.
