Cutting infrastructure budget is the ‘easy option’

The new coalition has chosen an easy solution to its budget problems by making an extra €280m in cuts to the infrastructure fund, transport sector firms said on Tuesday.

Transport and Logistics Nederland (TLN) and the loaders’ organisation EVO point out that cuts to infrastucture in previous budgets have led to pressure on road building and maintenance, reports Trouw.
The two organisations say investment in road transport is of essential importance to the Dutch economy.
The new coalition has decided to reduce spending on roads and transfer the cash to the social affairs ministry to help offset cuts in unemployment benefit.
