Basic health insurance package could be made smaller

The government is considering removing more items from the basic healthcare package, including some psychiatric help and physiotherapy, the Telegraaf reports on Monday.

The paper says the government needs to find an extra €1.5bn in savings on healthcare spending and the ministry has already drawn up measures that could be introduced in 2015.
These include removing treatment for depression, anxieties and addiction from the basic compulsory package and allowing people to take out extra insurance to cover them. In addition spending on prevention, such as anti-smoking policies, could also be drastically reduced, the paper says.
