Police officer, couple in marijuana murder mystery were shot
The police officer and couple found dead in a village house last weekend had been shot, and the 59-year-old officer’s gun was involved in the shooting, news agency ANP reported on Friday.
Police inspector Jan Petter died of a gunshot to the head at his home in Kekerdom near the German border. His ex-girlfriend, 47, and her new partner, 50, had multiple shot wounds.
It is not yet clear if another gun had also been fired.
Unusual
According to ANP, Petter had been home for several months recovering from a knee injury and it is unusual for police officers who are off work to take their service weapons home.
Police found 224 cannabis plants in the police officer’s home. The house where the couple lived also contained equipment for marijuana growing but no plants, ANP said. That house in a nearby village had been rented from another police officer.
ANP also said the 50-year-old man had earlier served several years in jail for fraud, forgery and had been arrested for dealing small quantities of cocaine and ecstasy.
Petter’s funeral will take place next week without a police guard of honour, in line with the wishes of his relatives, a police spokeswoman said.
