Greece can leave eurozone, says Stork chief
Greece could leaving the eurozone without it having much effect, the chief executive of engineering group Stork said during a debate on Thursday evening.
‘As far as I am concerned, Greece can drop out, and in one go,’ Sjoerd Vollebregt said after the Financieele Dagblad’s traditional entrepreneurs’ debate.
‘Spain has to stay in… but Greece is a relatively small economy… It is a country which you can agree to invest in but from which you expect something in return,’ he told BNR. ‘If Greece does not do that, then you know what the consequences are, but you have to show your teeth as well.’
The government should also do a better job of defending Dutch interests in Brussels, Vollebregt said, pointing out the position of minister for Europe was scrapped in order to save money.
Ministers do not have enough time to invest, he said. ‘And all that because you want to save a symbolic €200,000. We have to stop being penny-wise and pound-foolish.’
