Rich Arabs to save largest Dutch windfarm
Energy firm Taqa, owned by the oil rich state of Abu Dhabi, is about to commit to a milliion-dollar investment in a gigantic windfarm in the North Sea, the Telegraaf reports.
German industrial concern Siemens is planning to construct 150 turbines in the south-eastern part of the North Sea. The energy produced will be enough to power over 1.5 million Dutch homes.
Siemens has been looking for an investor for the windfarm for some time, says the paper. It now looks certain that Taqa will become the biggest shareholder in what will be the Netherlands’ largest windfarm for decades.
The area of the North Sea where it will be built is well-known for its strong winds.
Construction is due to begin in 2013.
