Employers offer tax-free bonus instead of pay rise

The employers’ organisation AWVN is suggesting workers should be given a tax-free bonus in 2013 rather than an increase in salary.

The bonus would be a maximum of 2%. On an average wage of €33,000 that would be €660, reports the Telegraaf.
By taking a lump sum rather than negotiating a pay rise, people would be encouraged to spend more, the AWVN hopes.
‘A tax-free 2% once a year is more than the 1.6% to 1.7% of the average negotiated pay rise,’ the organisation’s Hans van der Steen told the paper.
