Central bank officials kept information secret from the parliamentary inquiry looking into the causes of the banking crisis, the Volkskrant reports on Thursday.

Two reports into the way the central bank operated during the takeover of ABN Amro by a consortium of foreign banks and the central bank’s role in the difficult merger between ABN Amro and Fortis were withheld, the paper says.
The reports were apparently kept secret because they contained sensitive information about the central bank’s supervisory role.
Helma Nepperus, deputy chairman of the De Wit commission, confirmed that the documents had been held back to news agency ANP. ‘The bank should have said, ‘hey guys, these might be interesting as well,’ Nepperus said.
However, the reports themselves would not have changed the outcome of the inquiry she said. The commission complained to finance minister Jan Kees de Jager about the omission and the reports have since been handed over, the paper said.
