Major office sell-off flops

Attempts by property investor Uni-Invest to sell its Dutch office portfolio have so far flopped, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Monday.

Despite a discount of 40%, Uni-Invests financier, Commerzbank, was unable to shift the 200 plus properties, the paper says. The most difficult properties are those in satellite towns such as Hoofddorp, Zoetermeer and Capelle aan den Ijssel which are losing out to the bigger cities.
The paper says the auction flop shows how difficult the situation facing the Dutch office market is. Several recent reports have show that vacancy rates are upwards of 15%.
In October, a working party made up of banks, developers and government officials warned investors and banks should be prepared to write €7bn off their investments in the Dutch office property sector in order to restore it to financial health.
